Fort Erie Exterior Siding Renovation.

Orestorations re-sided this two-storey home in Fort Erie. We stripped the old grey siding down to the sheathing, opened and patched the water-stained sections, and wrapped the walls. White vertical siding now covers both storeys and the bay window.

Stripping the siding and repairing the sheathing

Once we took the old grey siding off, the upper walls showed bare sheathing front and rear. Some sections carried water stains. The crew opened those areas to the framing and insulation, then closed them with new OSB sheathing.

Housewrap and new vertical siding

Before any siding went on, we wrapped the walls in Tyvek HomeWrap and Typar HouseWrap and taped the seams and window openings with red seam tape.

The finished house has white vertical siding on the two-storey walls and around the bay window, including the rear elevation that faces the pool.

Questions about this project

Why strip siding down to the sheathing?

Taking the siding off lets you see the wall underneath. On this house it exposed water-stained sheathing, which we opened up and patched with new OSB before the housewrap went on.

What housewrap went on this house?

Tyvek HomeWrap and Typar HouseWrap, with red tape on the seams and around the window openings.
